President’s
Report
July 26,
2008
Welcome:
We will be welcoming
several new members to our board this year as well as bidding farewell to some
old friends. Please join me in welcoming Karen Dietz as President of Baltimore
and Suellen Wilkins as President of Eastern Shore. Connie Gull will join us as
our Newsletter Editor and Joy will announce the results of the election for
Treasurer.
Events:
I have been appointed to the
National Conference Strategic Work Team and attended a meeting at the Gaylord National
Harbor last month. During that time the team brainstormed about topics for
speakers for next year’s convention. As a component we have the pleasure of
designing this year’s conference pin. I have contacted the supplier from last
year and will have some pictures to present of some ideas that he has put
together for us. Other ideas are welcome. We will need to discuss numbers of
pins to order. Last year Texas ordered 500 and they were sold out by the second
day.
Nominations:
It is not too early to start
thinking about next year when we will be electing a new Secretary and Vice
President. Also remember that we can always use members on Committees and
Workgroups so share this information with your members.
Programs:
Last February
we hosted the First Annual Certification Recognition Celebration. I would like
ideas about this year. As a venue I am considering Chesapeake College.
There will be a
lot of exciting opportunities for us as a component next year and they will be
needing a lot of volunteers so be thinking about how you and your districts can
come together to show the nation what we already know, that we have one of the
strongest networks of nurses in the country.
Future
Planning
Currently we need
to discuss the July Board meeting for next year, the newsletter, Component
Welcome packet, the Fall Conference, Gold Leaf Elements outstanding and
numerous other issues so bring your biggest and brightest ideas.
We have much to
be proud of this year as a result of all of your efforts and hard work. Again,
I would like to emphasize that this is a team effort and we can only succeed as
a whole through the efforts of each and every one of us. I wish to thank all of
you for the unwavering support that you have given me this past year as your
President. I know that this year we will be shining stars at the National
Conference.
I look forward
to seeing all of you soon as we get down to the business of planning another
successful year together.
Respectfully submitted,
