CBSPAN BOARD MEETING

ASPAN COMMUNICATIONS

          AWARDS/CALL FOR NOMINATIONS:

 

-         2005 Excellence in Clinical Practice Award:  To recognize and support

excellence in clinical practice in perianesthesia nursing.

-         2005 award for Outstanding Achievement:  To recognize and honor a

      colleague whose dedication to excellence had furthered the art and

      science of  perianesthesia nursing.

-         2005 Past President’s Distinguished Service Award:  To recognize an

individual’s distinguished service to ASPAN at the national level.

-         Gold Leaf Component of the Year Award 2005. All forms and required

     documentation must be postmarked by 2/1/05. Do we want to apply?

-         ASPAN BOD  Nominations 2005 – 2006:  To identify component

     leaders who may be interested in furthering their participation with

     ASPAN – Deadline October 31, 2004.

 

CALL FOR RESEARCH POSTERS/ABSTRACTS: Deadline 11/1/04

 

CELEBRATE SUCCESSFUL PRACTICES – CALL FOR ABSTRACTS;

 

-         Abstract must be received by 11/14/04.

 

RESEARCH GRANTS AVAILABLE:

 

-         Funds are available to support an ASPAN member’s research program

    related to perianesthesia nursing practice.  Applications must be

              received in the National Office by 1/15/05 to be awarded at the 2005

              National Conference.

 

          ASPAN WILLINGNESS TO SERVE FORMS 2005 - 2006:  Due 10/31/04

 

          CONGRATULATIONS

 

-         To the Michigan Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (MAPAN) recipient of the 2003 Gold Leaf Component of the Year Award

 

 

 

 

 

ASPAN PRESIDENTIAL UPDATE:

 

-         Creation of a Membership Recovery Strategic Work Team.  It’s purpose is to critically evaluate where we are and where we are going with retention, recruitment, and recognition of members.  To share ideas contact Maureen Iacono, the SWT Coordinator @ Maureen.iacono@sjhsyr.org

-         Evidence Based Practice (EBP) SWT met in Baltimore in June. Purpose to bring an EBP model to our Research Committee for implementation based on our Standards of Practice. Under the direction of Myrna Mamaril the EBP SWT developed a model for ASPAN. Look for more information in future publications.

-         The ASPAN Hypothermia and Pain/Comfort Guidelines were accepted into the “National Guideline Clearinghouse”.  This Clearinghouse is the ultimate home of many guidelines where novice, expert and academic nurses, both nationally and internationally, seek the best references.

 

REPRESENTATIVE ASSEMBLY 2004:

 

-         RA vote by mail approved  the proposal to replace the Council

     President with a 5th Regional Director.

 

GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS:

 

-         Gina Near, BSN, RN, CPAN is ASPAN’s Governmental Affairs Committee

     Chair. Focus is on Federal issues.

-         Our component liaison is Anita Olbek-Tooker, RN, CPAN

-         Component GA rep monitors state issues

-         Visit GA page on ASPAN’s Web site for updates

 

COMPONENT LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE 2004

 

-         Vision in Action: Rebuilding your Component  in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sept 10-12, 2004.  Betty Jo Wilson and Kathy Paskewitz received complementary registration from ASPAN. Michele Joynes and Kathy Paskewitz represented CBSPAN on the Component Showcase Panel to share experiences that have been successful with other components across the nation.

ASPAN’S 24TH NATIONAL CONFERENCE

 

-   Vision in Action” -   In Chicago to be held April 17 – 21, 2005.

     exposure at this conference.

 

REMARKABLE WOMAN AWARD

 

-         Contest sponsored by Personal Products Company, a division of

McNeil - PPC, Inc. Nomination forms available on line. Need to submit

a 250 word essay describing a female who has made an extraordinary

achievement or contribution to her community. Win a complimentary

trip to NYC to attend a live broadcast of “The View” and a $5,000

PERIANESTHESIA DATA ELEMENTS

 

-         ASPAN will launch in Spring, 2005. Purpose is to provide standardized

     documentation practice, education, outcome measures, and the ability

     to build hard data sets based on EBP.

-         Mailed CPAN/CAPAs who passed the exam in 4/04 to District Presidents

-         Inquiry for availability of ASPAN Scholarship brochure forwarded to Region 4 Director – response forthcoming

-         CBSPAN Scholarship deadline for National Conference in 2005 is 12/1/04
