¨                  Call for Resolutions for 2004 Representative Assembly (RA) meeting in

          Philadelphia, PA.

          Call for Resolutions Form can be obtained from the National Office

1.     Forms relating to bylaws changes-submit to National Office by 12/22/03.

2.     Forms relating to position statements, policy matters, or other issues-submit to National Office by 1/19/04.

¨                  ASPAN is one of 12 National Specialty Nursing Organizations awarded the

          Nurse Competence in Aging Grant.

                   - Goal is to improve the quality of healthcare delivered to older

                     adults.

 

¨                  PANAW 2004 is Feb. 2-8

          Theme is “Perianesthesia Nurses Influencing the Circle of Care”.

          This year’s logo depicts the circle beginning and ending with ASPAN. We

          are influenced by ASPAN as ASPAN is influenced by its members; which

          ultimately influences our care to patients and their families.

          Ideas for celebration are on the website.

 

¨                  ASPAN’s 23rd National Conference in Philadelphia, PA to be held

           April 18-22,2004 Circles of Influence:  Shaping Tomorrow’s Definition of

 Perianesthesia Nursing

          Component Night held on Sunday, April 18, 2004

          Theme is “Stars and Stripes”

 

¨                  The Publications Committee will sponsor the Annual Component

          Newsletter Contest - submit entry form by Jan. 23, 2004

 

¨                  ASPAN Website has a new look – visit www.aspan.org

 

¨                  ASPAN Governmental Affairs

          Gena Near, RN, BSN, CPAN recommends “THOMAS—U.S. Congress on the Internet”  (thomas.loc.gov) as a reference for governmental affairs issues.  This site went on line in January 1995. The most current information can be obtained since the site is updated throughout the day.

          who exemplifies leadership as a patient advocate.

CBSPAN COMMUNICATIONS

 

Recognition of Kathy Paskewitz, RN, CPAN for her article “Certification Is” that was in Nov/Dec issue of Breathline and her comments in the article “Speak Out!” from GBMC in Advance for Nurses Magazine. Kathy also received an “Award for Excellence” for her contributions to ABPANC serving on the Item Writing/ Review Committee 2003-2004. She is also a current member of the Exam Construct Committee for ABPANC.

 

A special thank you to CBSPAN members, Michele Joynes, Connie Gull, Karen Hoskins and Kathy Paskewitz for attending the 100th Annual MNA Awards Banquet on November 21, 2003 as part of “Treasuring Our Past, Creating Our Future”. US Senator Barbara A. Mikulski was honored at the luncheon attended by over 350 nurses by receiving the first MNA M. Adelaide Nutting Award for her extraordinary work in championing the profession of nursing. MNA was celebrating 100 years 1903-2003.

 

¨                  Statewide Commission on the Crisis in Nursing

Meeting January 8, 2004 @ Anne Arundel Medical Center. Next meeting in

          Rally planned in Annapolis on January 21, 2004 to show support for the

          Physician malpractice  issue.
