Dear Component Leadership and Grassroots Members,
As summer ends and the fall weather is about to begin here in New England, I find myself reflecting on the changes and achievements that have occurred in ASPAN since the National Conference in Chicago. Utilizing a strategic planning approach, the current Board of Directors and a fabulous National Office staff have unified their efforts around our core values and purpose, and made wonderful things happen! Strategies surrounding the education, practice, research and standards of our specialty have already been successfully implemented and our initial outcomes are positive.
ASPAN now has a nurse educator in the National Office one day a week. New educational programs are rolling out and more are to be offered based on a membership survey. Clinical practice is soliciting successful practices posters for National Conference from the remote areas of practice such as Phase III units and Radiology. A position paper on diversity is proposed. The geographic area that is requesting answers to clinical practice questions has grown significantly to encompass many parts of the world! Research is collating results from a safety culture survey which will directly influence our practice. ASPAN’s Standards are going under another revision in order to keep them up to date and relevant in today’s environment.
At all levels of our great organization, we are touching the world that touches us through a collaborative approach with healthcare partners. We are valued participants in the political arena as we advocate for our patients and families. Our publications are being sought and opportunities for joint research are a reality. An “Up and Comers” program has begun for the purpose of mentoring and promoting the growth and development of future ASPAN leaders. All this we accomplish with passion and pride. Finally, the Diversity SWT has been planning for a summit to be held at National Conference which will bring together nurses from varied backgrounds, ethnicities, and practice settings in a safe environment in which to learn and celebrate the uniqueness of each individual/group and the contributions they make daily to the delivery of quality care!
Enjoy a great conference as a means of networking, learning and advancing our mission and vision in ways that will help diversity to become a reality around us!
With warm regards,
