The President’s Corner
Happy New Year to all of you! This is such a busy time of year for me and all of you I am sure. While the earth is in its slumber I find myself running from one event to the next and wondering ‘how did this happen?’ Each year tends to get a little bit more hectic and then I remember what my grandparents told me long ago. My paternal grandfather once said, ‘the first eighteen years of your life is the longest then it all just races by’. How true that has turned out to be. Then I can remember my saintly maternal grandmother stating that she wished that she could give me some of her time. Unfortunately she is gone now but I thought I needed time when my children were small but I am finding out each day how little time I have for the small things in life.
With this New Year still in its infancy we have already been busy behind the scenes gearing up for the busy seasons ahead. We, your CBSPAN Board, have met and planned events for the upcoming year and we already have our first event right around the corner. How fortunate we are to have Dolly Ireland coming to kick off PANAW week. The application for the coveted Gold Leaf Award is being completed. All of you should have received your brochures for National Conference and I hope are planning to attend. There is a CPAN/CAPA review course scheduled for the month of April in Baltimore so that those of you planning on taking the exam in May can brush up on topics. Lastly, our Fall Seminar will be held in Washington, DC. This is just a brief overview of events that we as a component will participate in this year. My request to all of our membership is to please communicate to your district leaders what you would like to see happen as a component to help us reach our goals and more importantly stay in touch with all of your representatives in CBSPAN.
I would like to share with you again what wonderful opportunities there are to be had in this organization. Often I hear people say, I don’t have time to get involved. I challenge all of you to change that mantra to I have a little time to give. Being involved in any organization is a team effort and nothing can happen if we all do not work together. Having said that, go to the website, go to your district meetings, talk to your officers and ask the question is there something that I can do, is there someway that I can help? We truly do have something for everyone….like to write, there is the website and the newsletter, like politics…there is Governmental Affairs, like history…there is the Historian, like to take pictures…any of the above. I do not want anyone to ever feel that they have to live and breathe CBSPAN or that they will need to do everything by themselves, that is not what we are about. This is a wonderful organization full of supportive individuals who are passionate about what they do and who are willing to share with any and all of you.
In closing, use this year to challenge yourselves to become involved in some small way and to take time to appreciate the people and things around you. May we all have a satisfying and successful 2008.
